How to compare price per unit

Enter the shelf price and the product size for each option. The calculator converts matching products into the same base unit so you can compare like for like before you buy.

This is useful for groceries, drinks, toiletries, pantry staples, cleaning products, and any multipack where the cheaper sticker price is not always the better deal.

What is unit price?

Unit price is the cost for one standard amount of a product, such as one gram, one ounce, one liter, one foot, or one item. It helps you compare packages that do not have the same size.

A smaller pack can look cheaper on the shelf but cost more for each unit. A larger pack can cost more at checkout but still be the better value if you will actually use it.

What this calculator compares

  • Weight comparisons in grams, kilograms, pounds, and ounces
  • Volume comparisons in milliliters, liters, fluid ounces, quarts, pints, and gallons
  • Length comparisons in inches, feet, yards, meters, and centimeters
  • Per-item comparisons for packs, bundles, and unit counts

When unit price is most useful

Use it when comparing rice, coffee, meat, snacks, detergent, shampoo, drinks, fabric, cable, or multipacks. It is especially helpful when one product is on sale or when brands use different units on their labels.

If the products use different units, convert them first or use one of the dedicated calculators below.
